SUMMARY:Scioto Mile Concert: Ruthie Foster
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a powerful\, soul-stirring performance as Ruthie Foster takes the stage with a voice shaped by gospel tradition\, lived experience\, and deep musical roots. Blending blues\, folk and gospel influences\, her live shows are known for their emotional depth\, rich storytelling and effortless connection with the audience. From heartfelt ballads to uplifting\, full-voiced anthems\, Foster delivers a performance that feels both intimate and expansive. \nBorn into a gospel-rich family in Gause\, Texas\, Ruthie Foster grew up surrounded by the sounds of church choirs and artists like the Gospel Keynotes and the Blind Boys of Alabama. Encouraged by her mother and grandmother\, she developed her talents as a singer\, guitarist and songwriter\, though she initially preferred writing and playing behind the scenes rather than stepping into the spotlight. Her path eventually led her through community college studies\, service in the U.S. Navy performing with the Navy band Pride and time in New York’s songwriting community before returning to Texas to focus on her own voice as a recording artist. Over time\, she built a celebrated career marked by acclaimed albums\, GRAMMY® nominations\, and a recent GRAMMY® win for Best Contemporary Blues Album. \nEnjoy free live music on select evenings this summer at the Scioto Mile Concert Series\, presented by Columbus Recreation and Parks. Each show takes place at Bicentennial Park along the Scioto Mile\, with performances starting at 7 p.m.\, plus food trucks and a bar will be available. This concert is produced in partnership with the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA).
