Gem of the Ocean
Gem of the Ocean by August Wilson
The play follows guilt stricken Citizen Barlow on a journey of redemption after visiting community spiritual leader Aunt Esther at her home in the Hill District of Pittsburgh in 1904. Gem of the Ocean explores the symbolic and spiritual connection between a turn-of-the-century Black community and its alive and stirring memory of an enslaved past. Admission is free.
