School Programs
Located on the west bank of the Scioto River at Griggs Reservoir, McKnight Outdoor Education Center offers environmental education and outdoor skills programs through the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. Nature trails, caves, creeks and the Scioto River form the backdrop for your students to explore and discover the many wonders of nature.

CIT Program
The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program is a volunteer opportunity designed to provide selected applicants the chance to learn various aspects of the department’s summer camp program operations, while also gaining valuable experience. Designed for young people ages 13-17, CITs support the work of camp counselors at one of our summer campsites over the course of the season. Participants who are selected as CITs gain valuable skills in teamwork, leadership, critical thinking and communication, while also learning about registration processes, supervision of children’s activities and program development. The volunteer hours worked in the program can be applied toward school requirements, upon approval from each individual’s school administration.
