Employment Opportunities

Columbus Recreation and Parks Department offers a variety of opportunities for employment in Parks, Recreation, Sports, Permits, Community Relations, Golf, Planning and Design, Special Events, Human Resources and Fiscal. These opportunities are full and part-time and some can even start out as seasonal jobs for youth.

Recreation

Recreation and Parks Aide

Assists staff within the community center with various tasks; such as ensuring standards of acceptable conduct, cleaning and maintaining the facilities, opening and closing buildings and assisting with activities within the center.

Lifeguard

Monitors the swimming pool in order to direct water safety and prevent accidents, teaches swimming lessons and maintains pool/pool deck.

Parks and Golf

Recreation and Parks Aide

Performs general grounds cleaning work such as: picking up debris, raking leaves, pulling weeds, trimming bushes, mowing grass, digging holes for planting, emptying trash barrels, and cleaning and maintaining restrooms.

Sports

Sports Officials

We also employ over 200 private contractors as officials for our various adult and youth sports leagues. Our programs are expanding rapidly and demand for quality officials is at an all-time high.

APPS

 Job Readiness Program

The APPS Job Readiness Program (AJRP) is a comprehensive 10-week workforce development program that provides practical work experience with the City, the minority business community and emerging workforce pathway opportunities with the Ohio State University hospital network. Heavy emphasis is placed on coaching and training to ensure participants’ success during the program and in future jobs. Job Coaches provide on-site support and guidance four to five times a week. AJRP’s two eight-week training programs serve young people 14-23 years old who live in the City of Columbus or pay Columbus taxes.
