Overview

Beechwold Nature Preserve is a 11.41 Nature Preserve in the Clintonville community.

History

Beechwold Nature Preserve was designated a preserve in 2016. It is located within the Old Beechwold Historical District, which was listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 1985 and on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. In the early 1900s the area was once a zoo, and today, the zookeeper’s gatehouse, a bridge and surrounding buildings are all that remain. After the zoo closed, the land was sold and ultimately became known as “Beechwold” meaning “The Beech Forest”.
