Therapeutic Recreation summer camps are an inclusive, structured camp experience for school-aged youth with and without disabilities. Campers will engage in fun and exciting weekly activities to strengthen social skills, life skills, increase leisure awareness and practice emotional regulation. This camp offers a staff-to-camper ratio of 1:3, where campers have the opportunity to work in small peer groups of similar age and complete confidence-building tasks, which fosters increased independence. Daily enrichment activities include swimming, physical education games, community outings, social-emotional learning, cooking, gardening, nature education and exploration, and arts and crafts. Accessible field trip transportation provided.
Campers must be able to follow verbal instructions and function independently and safely in small groups and communal settings. Therapeutic Recreation staff are unable to provide 1:1 therapeutic care for campers who require additional individual support for personal and medical care, or behavioral issues such as elopements. Independent care providers arranged by the caregiver are welcome to attend camp with their camper. If a camper requires help with dressing, toileting or eating but is otherwise able to participate independently, qualified personal care support may be provided at no additional cost to the family.
If a camper’s needs exceed what our program can safely and effectively support in a group or community setting, and the family is unable to provide an appropriate support person, the camper will be unenrolled from camp.
Registration/Application for Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camp is a three-part process. Enrollment in camp will not be confirmed until the completion of all steps.
