Big things are coming to Beatty!
What began as a setback is becoming something bigger: the City’s first community space that offers programs and amenities designed specifically for youth in grades 6–12.
During after-school and dedicated program hours, Beatty will transform into Columbus’ first premier teen space—one intentionally designed to help youth in grades 6–12 believe, belong and become. Designed around the interests, challenges and opportunities unique to teens, Beatty will provide a welcoming environment for young people to explore and discover their passion, whether that’s podcasting, sports, technology, esports or spending time with friends.
Beatty will continue to welcome residents of all ages during designated community hours.

Is this a place for teens or for all residents?
It’s both.
Beatty Community Center is focused on teens, with dedicated spaces and programs created specifically for youth in grades 6–12. Teens will have places to connect with friends, explore interests and participate in structured programs that support confidence, leadership and personal growth.
The center will include opportunities for all generations to gather and stay connected through designated community hours.
Who can attend?
Teen programming is focused on Columbus youth in grades 6–12. Programs and spaces are intentionally designed for teens so they can connect with peers in an environment built for their age group and interests.
What are the hours?
During the school year, programming will focus on after-school and evening hours, with additional access on Saturdays. Summer programming will expand into daytime hours.
More details will be shared closer to opening.
How much does it cost?
Many core offerings will be free, including after-school drop-in, teen lounge access, open gym and homework help.
Some specialized programs, such as fitness training, makerspace workshops or esports leagues, may include low-cost fees to support materials and instruction.
Our goal is to keep access affordable so more teens can participate.
Is the center supervised?
Yes. Beatty Community Center will be staffed by trained Columbus Recreation and Parks team members, program instructors and community partners who provide active supervision and support throughout the facility.
All participants will be expected to follow a code of conduct to help maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
How will you keep teens safe?
Safety is a top priority. The center is being designed to provide a structured, supervised environment where teens can spend time productively and positively after school.
This includes:
- Staff presence throughout program spaces
- Clear expectations for behavior
- Structured programming and activities
- Teen-focused spaces designed for safety and connection
Do teens need to register?
Yes. Participants will need:
- A completed ActiveNet registration
- Signed code of conduct
- Emergency contact information
This helps staff keep participants safe and connected.
What kinds of teen programs will be offered?
Programs are designed to support the whole teen and will include:
- Creative programs: podcasting, media production and makerspaces
- Fitness and sports: open gym, leagues and training opportunities
- Technology: esports and digital skills
- Leadership and workforce development: job readiness and real-world skill building
- Social spaces: teen lounge, drop-in activities and community events
Programs will be available for all experience levels, from beginner to advanced.
