Barack Community Center Storm Damage

Project Overview

We know Barack Community Center is an important part of the community, and we understand why residents are eager to see repairs begin.

The storm caused significant damage inside and out, including damage to the roof over the gymnasium, leading to an inch of water in the building. Because of the condition and size of the roof, it’s not currently safe to install a tarp.

While there may not be visible construction yet, work is underway. Our team has been on-site with contractors over the past several weeks assessing the building, determining the full scope of repairs and securing items inside. The week of Aug. 24, we are meeting with Building and Zoning Services to determine what permits are needed and selecting a builder. This will allow us to establish costs and timing.

The needed repairs are significant and will take time. We are working to move the process forward as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, residents can visit any community center, including Driving Park, Schiller and Marion Franklin community centers.

We appreciate the community’s patience, and we will continue to share updates as we better understand the scope of work and timeline.
