Kilbourne Run Sports Park

Welcome to Kilbourne Run Sports Park!

Kilbourne Run Sports Park is part of the Community Sports Park project, which makes significant investments in sports facilities across the City. The additional park and facilities investments that make up the project will provide Columbus residents access to a variety of recreational opportunities.

Located at 4625 Westerville Road, Kilbourne Run Sports Park stretches over 62 acres, which includes 35 acres dedicated to soccer fields. Currently, the park provides 16 fields of various sizes, gravel parking lots, an open air shelter and a connector trail that leads to the Alum Creek Greenway. With over 38,000 participants on average per year, this sports park has become one of Columbus’ busiest soccer facilities. In 2022, the City determined Kilbourne Run Sports Park deserved significant investment to improve the community’s access to prime soccer facilities.

In July 2022, Mayor Andrew J. Ginther announced this exciting renovation to fulfill the Community Sports Park agreements with the Columbus Crew. This investment will establish Kilbourne Run as one of the premier sports parks in central Ohio and a distinguished regional park to the 81,000+ residents living within a 10-minute drive from the park.

The site plan includes the following:

    • 5 full-size artificial turf soccer fields with lighting.
    • 1 full-size artificial turf championship field with lighting and spectator amenities, such as team rooms, press box, branded score board, and large capacity bleacher seating (seats).
    • Enhancements to the existing natural turf fields and irrigation controls.
    • Re-design of site layout to improve and expand vehicular access, vehicular parking and pedestrian access.
    • Inclusion of regional park features, such as walking loops, playgrounds, restrooms, shelters, lighting, several hundred tree plantings, and open green space.
    • Demolition of the existing vacant building at 4625 Westerville Road.
    • Realignment of the parks entry drive with Westerville Woods Drive and converting the intersection to a roundabout.
    • Addition of a new maintenance facility on site to serve the needs of the improved park operations.

Project Goals

  • Create a vibrant, multi-generational sports park and regional tournament destination for youth, adult and travel leagues.
  • Enhance the community park features for all.
  • Develop safe access routes for all modes of transportation to and within the park.
  • Collaborate with Columbus Crew and the greater community to develop an informed, complete and holistic plan for the park.
  • Implement the City’s green guidelines and set a sustainable design example for Sports Parks regionally.
