The Future of Parks in the Southwest Neighborhood
A Bigger Investment. More Parks. More Opportunities.
Exciting things are coming to the Southwest neighborhood!
The Southwest Park Working Group was created to ensure the parks and recreation amenities originally planned for McCoy Park are delivered to the community. After months of collaboration with residents, community leaders and project partners, the Working Group developed a plan that not only fulfills those commitments—it expands them.
The solutions create a network of parks and recreation opportunities across three locations, bringing amenities closer to more residents and increasing investment throughout the Southwest neighborhood.
Nearly 50,000 residents will live within a two-mile drive of these amenities—compared to approximately 18,000 under the original plan.
What This Means for the Southwest Neighborhood
These recommendations do more than replace what was originally planned. They expand access to parks and recreation by creating:
- More parks closer to where people live
- Recreation opportunities for children, families and individuals with disabilities
- Better neighborhood connections
- Increased public investment across the Southwest neighborhood
- Parks and recreation spaces that will serve the community for generations
What’s Next
With the Working Group’s recommendations complete, the focus now shifts from planning to building.
The final report serves as the roadmap for designing and constructing these parks and recreation amenities. Work will begin in phases, with the first phase staying on the timeline originally promised to the community.
As projects move forward, we’ll continue sharing updates, project milestones, timelines and construction progress right here on this page.
